World Asthma Day is an annual event organized by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) on the first Tuesday in May to improve asthma awareness and control around the world. This year it was observed across the globe on May 7, 2019. The theme of World Asthma Day 2019 was ‘STOP for Asthma’.
- Asthma is a common lung condition that causes breathing problems. It is a long term chronic disease which is characterised by recurrent attacks of breathlessness and wheezing, which varies in severity and frequency from person to person.
- There is no defined cure of Asthma till date. Asthma patients usually resort to inhalers to prevent and relieve the symptoms. It is generally advised to seek immediate medical help, if asthma attack becomes severe.
World Asthma Day
The World Asthma Day is celebrated every year by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) on the first Tuesday in May. The Day was first organised in 1998 and was celebrated across 35 counties in conjunction with the first World Asthma Meeting held in Barcelona, Spain.
