The government appointed Soma Roy Burman as the new Controller General of Accounts (CGA) with effect from 1 December 2019. Ms. Burman is the 24th CGA of India. She is the seventh woman to hold this position.
Soma Roy Burman is a 1986-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service Officer. In her three decades of experience, she has held various cadre positions at different levels in ministries including Home Affairs, Road Transport & Highways, Information & Broadcasting, Industry, Finance, Human Resource Development, and Shipping. She has served as the Additional Controller General of Accounts in the office of CGA. She has handled critical areas of accounting rules, financial reporting, policy and reforms, data analytics, cash, and budget management.
Controller General of Accounts (CGA) heads the Indian Civil Accounts Organisation under the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance. CGA is the central accounting and reporting agency for the government. CGA is assisted by the officers of the Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS).
