The Vice President of India Shri M Venkaiah Naidu presented the Most Eminent Senior Citizen Award to Shri K. Parasaran, legal luminary, scholar and former Attorney General of India, in a function at the India International Centre in New Delhi.
- The award recognized his contribution to the field of law and justice and his extraordinary personality. Shri K. Parasaran, 92 years, is an Indian lawyer. In 1976, he served as the Advocate-General of Tamil Nadu during President’s rule. He also served as the Attorney General of India under Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
- He is an eminent person in India in terms of knowledge of the law, knowledge of Shastras, erudition, and ethics. He is referred to as a Pitamaha of the Indian Bar. He is known for his erudition, discipline, hard work, honesty, and ethics. He is a deeply spiritual legal practitioner who tried to blend both dharma and Nyaya.
- In 2003, Parasaran was awarded the Padma Bhushan. In 2011, he was conferred the Padma Vibhushan. In June 2012, he received a presidential nomination to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of India’s parliament.
