India ranked 34th in 2019 world travel & tourism competitiveness index


According to the recent Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) for the year 2019 released by the World Economic Forum(WEF) on September 4, 2019, India was ranked at the 34th spot, an improvement by 6 places from the 2017 report (40th rank). The index was topped by Spain followed by France and Germany in the second and third places respectively.

Japan ranked 4th overall, topped the list in the Asia-Pacific region for the most competitive travel and tourism economy, whereas Pakistan which ranks 134th place overall, was ranked at 121st place in Asia Pacific Region (South Asia) making it the least tourism competitive country.

Yemen was ranked last in the index at 140th position. India still needs to improve in the enabling environment, tourist service infrastructure and environmental sustainability as it ranks 98th, 109th and 128th respectively.
