11th February declared as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science :

The United Nations (UN) General Assembly declared 11th February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, in order to achieve full and equal participation and access to women and girls in science, and to further achieve gender equality and empowerment of women and girls. As per the UNESCO data (2014-16), only about 30% of all female students select STEM-related fields in higher education. The theme for the International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2019 was “Investment in Women and Girls in Science for Inclusive Green Growth.

I&B Ministry organised first annual conference of Media Units :

The Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry will organise the first annual conference of Media Units in New Delhi on February 13, 2019.  The conference aims to give a unique platform to the officers of the Indian Information Service working in different Media Units to converge at an All-India level.The conference will involve discussions and deliberations upon the emerging areas of the evolving communication paradigm.  It will be chaired by Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore. 

Manish Tewari launched book on economic justice :

Former Union Minister and author Manish Tewari launched “What Marx Left Unsaid”, authored by Malay Chaudhuri, Arindam Chaudhuri and Che Kabir Chaudhuri at the India International Centre in New Delhi. It was launched to commemorate the 200th birth anniversary of Karl Marx. The book is jointly written by three generations of authors from the same family, and has been published by Times Group Books.

Senior National Badminton Championships begins in Guwahati :

The 83rd edition of Senior National Badminton Championships has begun in Guwahati. Defending champion Saina Nehwal and last edition’s runner-up PV Sindhu will be the biggest attractions in Women’s Singles. The Men’s Singles will be without defending champion HS Prannoy and runners-up Kidambi Srikanth who are suffering from injuries.

NTPC signed pact with SBI for Rs 5000 crore term loan :

State-owned power giant NTPC has announced that it has signed a term loan agreement for Rs 5,000 crore with State Bank of India. The loan facility is extended at an interest rate linked to 3-Month MCLR of the Bank. This loan has a door to door tenure of 15 years and will be utilised to part finance the capital expenditure of NTPC.

Women with four children to get life tax exemption in Hungary :

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said that women in the country with four children or more will be exempted for life from paying income tax. The move aims at boosting the country’s population. The PM said that this is a way of defending Hungary’s future without depending on immigration.
