Bhola Nath Shukla designated as CMD of Mahanadi Coalfield Ltd


According to the Personnel ministry, Government of India Bhola Nath Shukla has been appointed as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) for a period up to October 31, 2020. He is currently working as the Director (Technical) of Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited. He succeeds Shri Rajiv Ranjan Mishra.

  • Having a distinguished career of 37 years in coal industry, Mr Shukla was Director (Technical) at Ranchi (Jharkhand)-headquartered sister subsidiary Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Ltd (CMPDI), before taking over the charge of MCL.
  • A mining engineering graduate from IIT (BHU) and M.Tech in Opencast Mining from IIT (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, Mr Shukla is credited for introduction of innovative technologies into coal mining. 
  • As a General Manager (Corporate Planning & Projects), Mr Shukla was instrumental in company’s new initiatives into energy sector and infrastructure development for coal mining and despatch.

Mahanadi Coalfield Ltd :

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) is one of the major coal producing company of India. It is one of the eight subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. Mahanadi Coalfields Limited was carved out of South Eastern Coalfields Limited in 1992 with its headquarters at Sambalpur. It has its coal mines spread across Odisha It has total seven open cast mines and three underground mines under its fold.
