The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the 13th Annual Convention of the Central Information Commission (CIC) in New Delhi. It will measure to improve the transparency and accountability of information for better governance.
It consisted of the Annual Convention on the topic “Data privacy and Right to information, Amendment in the RTI Act and Implementation of the RTI Act”
- The Convention will have three specific subjects:
- “Data privacy and Right to Information”,
- “Amendment in the RTI Act” and
- “Implementation of the RTI Act.”
The convention focused on discussions of free flow and availability of information to the citizens. For this reason, the Government is committed to strengthening the RTI Act and Institutions. Also, the government has already initiated the process of selection of Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and Information Commissioner (ICs).
Central Information Commission (CIC) :
The Central Information Commission (CIC) set up under the Right to Information Act is the authorised body, established in 2005,under the Government of India to act upon complaints from those individuals who have not been able to submit information requests to a Central Public Information Officer or State Public Information Officer due to either the officer not have been appointed, or because the respective Central Assistant Public Information Officer or State Assistant Public Information Officer refused to receive the application for information under the RTI Act.
